Walkability · Active travel · Better places

Make walking
the obvious choice.

Walkabout100 helps cities and design teams turn fragmented routes into connected, safe and inviting walking networks — for everyday journeys, health and life outdoors.

Walking is not the space left over between buildings. It is the connective infrastructure of everyday life.

When routes are continuous, green, legible and inclusive, people do not need to be persuaded to walk. The better choice becomes the easier choice.

From a single route to a city-wide strategy.

Practical support for public authorities, urban teams and organisations ready to make walking a real priority.

01

Walkability audits

Evidence-led assessment of routes, barriers, continuity, comfort, accessibility and the everyday pedestrian experience.

02

Strategies for places

Pedestrian strategies and action plans that connect mobility, public space, health, tourism and local development.

03

Project advisory

Early-stage and design-stage guidance for architects, planners and project teams — before difficult decisions become expensive.

04

Research partnerships

Applied research, project development and grant collaboration focused on active mobility and better walking environments.

See the whole journey. Improve what matters first.

The method builds on spatial analysis, direct observation and comparative research. It looks beyond isolated interventions to create a network people can understand, trust and use.

A green pedestrian route in a contemporary city

Cities, suburbs and rural areas belong to the same walking story.

Walkability is more than short access to public transport. It is the freedom to reach daily destinations, green space and open landscapes safely — regardless of age, ability or postcode.

Anita Gliwa

Architect · PhD · Walkability and active mobility specialist

I work at the intersection of architecture, urban planning and everyday movement. My international experience — across Poland, Ireland, the UK, Hong Kong, Australia and Qatar — shaped a simple conviction: walking must be designed as a connected system, not treated as an afterthought.

Walkabout100 is my platform for turning research into practical change: healthier routes, more accessible places and stronger walking culture in cities and rural communities.
